I feel that my overall
Micro-Teaching went very well, the group that I was with were very nice. I wish
that they were more talkative when I was trying to start a class discussion. I
would say that the lack of discussion was my area of weakness, next time to
prepare in case the silence happens again, I will come up with a second
activity that I can have my classmates do, in case I have plenty of time
remaining. Doing this will help me not finish as early as I did for this
Micro-Teaching.
I believe that my objective was met, my objective was for
the class to listen to an Edgar Allan Poe poem, and write a short story or poem
incorporating the same emotion that Edgar Allen Poe poem had. But I also feel
that I should have had a better objective planned out. My evidence of this objective is the story
that I had my classmates write, I did not collect this activity though. Now I know for next time that I have to have
my “students” do an activity that I collect, so that I have proof of my
objective being met. If some of my
classmates did not met or understand my objective, I would say that is because
of my lack of content and my lack of asking them questions.
I learned that I need to come up with a better topic to
teach, and also that I need to have a backup plan just in case students to not partake
in the class discussion like I assumed they would. This experience showed me
that I need to dress more professionally and less casually, and that I also
need to practice slowing down my speech. When I re-watched the Micro-Teaching
video I felt that I spoke to quickly when I was teaching my classmates. For my next Micro-Teaching project I now know
that I shouldn’t go first, I should watch several of my classmates and see what
they do before I teach. It also showed
me that I need to have a back-up plan or more discussion questions on standby.
I say this because if the student don’t respond to my original questions, I
should have another activity planned.
The Micro-Teaching was an overall good experience for me, and it showed
me a lot of things that I need to work on for my next Micro-Teaching.
